Executive Summery
The graduation project titled “Analysis and Design of Highway Bridge Superstructure” which presents an alternative analysis and design solution for an existing bridge ‘Al-Sleimi Bridge’ in Al Ain city.
The main objective of this graduation project is to apply the knowledge that has been learned during the study years from various civil engineering courses into this senior graduation project to maximize our competencies and expand our engineering knowledge.
In addition, standards and codes such as the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) must be used in the design and analysis of highway bridges. Therefore, the project team members must be familiar with such codes to fulfill the bridge design. It is expected that we get familiar with the hand calculations, standards, and specifications pertinent to the design of bridge superstructure. Moreover, engineering software such as SAP2000 should be used in the analysis stages, while AutoCAD can be used for drafting and detailing of the bridge components.
This project is divided into two main parts; the first part is analysis and design of slab bridge while the second part is analysis and design of box girder bridge.
